About:

A man with an uncanny ability to display the surreal as real. His canvases seem like windows into other worlds, with their intense detail and mastery of colour. Kapoor has made quite a name for himself through works like his “Christ” series of ’71, depicting Christ’s crucifixion, and his ‘Victim” series from 1984 which portrays prostitutes that have been abused and mistreated, emanating from the aura of degradation. His recent ‘Nude’ series of 2006 reveals the art of the female body in its rudimentary form. With poses of exhaustion and despair the women are seen in a different light, one that is hidden away from the rest of the world. His recent ‘Shades of Time’ series of Indian actresses show the women in a much more glamorous, animated state that is different to his works of the past, showing his continual journey of inspiration and his inner growth as an artist.
